Measuring filling power
Filling power can be measured in a cylinder which measures the amount of down in millimeters per 30 grams (mm / 30g). In order to measure this, the washed and dried down is placed in a cylinder. Subsequently, pressure is performed on the down. At a certain pressure examines how high the layer of down, the number reflects the filling power of the down too. Filling power can range from a value of 70 mm / 30g to a value of 220 mm / 30g which is the highest quality down that often only has in best down alternative comforter.

Not every country uses the fill power unit ” mm / 30 gr. ” Appears. The quality indicator in these other countries is usually ” CUIN ” (cubic inch per ounce). Here you can see the conversion table of mm / 30gr to CUIN.
Which filling capacity is right for you
The consideration which properties you prefer for your quilt is based on your desire for a light or a heavier duvet. If you like a very light but warm duvet, it is recommended to buy a duvet with down from a high filling power. If you want a heavier duvet, due to down conforter reviews, it is advisable to choose a duvet with down to a slightly lower filling power. Incidentally, by definition, modern duvets are light, so we are talking about relative heaviness.
Skies and dry? Yes!
Down comforters do not need much care. By submitting your quilt in air and shaking the stuffing nicely light and loose, your comforter will last long. Air is in the comforter climatic buffer needs daily airing and fluffing which is recommended wholeheartedly. You would do well to hang your comforter when the weather is nice so it stays dry. Obviously, you should ventilate it especially in dry weather. However, let your duvet not hang in direct sunlight because sun dehumidifies down and feathers. These losses thus decreases their elasticity which reduces your sleeping pleasure. In winter you can lay your duvet on the heater. But beware with the temperature, this can not be higher than body temperature!
If the down is no more loose in the duvet, you can manually rap. What is a good way to loosen it down again? The quilt is put in a dryer with a wrung towel. The warm and humid air makes down disengage from each other and the desired “looseness” is achieved without sacrificing in filling power.
Washing machine: yes or no?
Most comforters can be washed in the machine if you stick to the washing instructions on the label. If this state that a comforter must not be washed, please do so!
For quilts WEL crops should be: in the washing machine, drying (possibly with some tennis balls in the machine) and shake up! If you can not clean your comforter, leave it to a professional. An overview of all washing instructions, including explanations can be found on the internet.
A down comforter had never better cleaning. Therefore try to limit it as much as possible.
Knock and suck? No!
Do not use a carpet beater or vacuum cleaner to shake or get rid of dust on your down comforter. Lightly brushing occasionally will be enough! When beating or vacuuming the comforter cover pores can dilate, and feather and down from the ticking will come out.
